about

Composed by Andy Hunter, set to the third and fourth parts of the pipe-tune 'The Jig of Slurs' by G. S. MacLennan. Learned form the repertoire of Lizzie Higgins

This song describes the pleasures of line-fishing, and gives locations where good fish are to be found. The singer rises with the laverock [lark] in the morning and takes to the hills. This song was composed by Lizzie Higgins' family friend, Andy Hunter.

I am based in Glasgow and explore traditional Scots song. Inspired largely by Scots singers including the repertoire of Lizzie Higgins (1929-1993), I bring together a range of sources and sparse accompaniment.
